As an international student you have 2 options for your Study in Germany student visa application.
You may enrol in course with a medium of instruction in a German language for which you need to have German language proficiency at level B1 or in course with a medium of instruction English for which you need to have IELTS band score of 6.
If you do not have proof of German language proficiency then you have to enrol in a German language foundation course of up to 9 months to one year and then enrol in your main course of study.

If you are student panning to Study Masters in Germany then if you choose to do your course in English Language then you spend 18 months on study. If you choose to do German language foundation course you spend 30 months for study in Germany.
For students wanting to do Bachelors in English medium Instruction you spent 4 years on study as compared to 5 years if you choose to do foundation Course of German language before pursuing your main course.
Money Saving
Enrolling directly would save you approximately Euros of 6000 to 10000 tuition fees along with your cost of living of about Euros 8000 for the duration of your German language foundation course. This is a significant amount which you can use to pay for your main course tuition fees.
Working during Study
As an international student you would also like to work part time. If you are doing a language foundation course then you need permission to work. While on the main course you may work for up to 240 days part time or 120 days full time.
Less time for Post Study Work Visa
After completing your study in Germany as an international student you are entitled for 18 months of Post Study Work visa. Now if you are a Masters student directly enrolling in the main course you would become eligible for this after your course completion which is of 18 months. You study for 18 months and get Post Study work visa. On the other hand if you enrol in a German Language foundation course of 1 year and then do Maters of 18 months you get PSW after 30 months.
For students doing 4 years Bachelors degree you get PSW after 4 years if you choose to do your main course in English language. If you choose to do foundation course before your main course you get PSW after 5 years.
