    Students after 1 year in this programme will be efficient in the following:

  • To Use ground-level industry knowledge for the evaluation of design principles for small building projects, building or construction related environment.
  • Carrying out feasible studies for small buildings.
  • Will be able to communicate a concept and building design, and prepare approval documentation for a building project in accordance with a design brief.
  • Evaluating the performance of and selecting the standard and non-specific materials and finishes to be used in the building process.
  • Prepare, organise and present architectural working drawings for small buildings using manual and digital technologies in accordance with the statutory and regulatory environment.

    Students of this qualification will be able to:

  • Apply their comprehensive industry knowledge to evaluate design principles for small, medium and large building projects in a design, building or construction related environment.
  • Carrying out feasible studies for small, medium and large buildings.
  • Establishing the clients’ requirements, developing and communicating a new concept and building design, and preparing approval documentation for a building project in accordance with a clients’ description.
  • Evaluating the performance of and selecting materials and finishes to be used in the building process.
  • Preparing, organising and presenting architectural working drawings for small and medium buildings using manual and digital technologies in accordance with the statutory and regulatory environment.
  • Understanding the key roles, documentation and administrative requirements of the construction industry, applying this knowledge and assist senior personnel through the tender process.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    Academic

    Year 1: Successful applicants for entry will have a minimum of:

    Standard Entry Criteria

  • Have qualification equivalent to NCEA Level 1 and at least 50 Level 2 NCEA credits in one year in best 4 subjects; or
  • Successful completion of a bridging/foundation programme.

    Special Admission

    The applicants after completion of their Higher Secondary Education may apply for this diploma.

    English Proficiency Score:

    1. IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score not less than 5.5
    2. TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
    3. TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)
    4. Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 50
