Master of Nursing Science

Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).

The Master of Nursing Science consists of a total of 240 points, with courses taught primarily at the AUT South Campus. The program is structured over two years. In the first year, students complete 120 points, which includes courses such as Integrative Practice I and II, as well as Applied Pathophysiology and Health Research Design & Planning.

In the second year, students again complete 120 points, culminating in a full-year Transition Practicum, which accounts for 60 points. Additional courses include Integrative Practice III and Applied Pharmacotherapeutics in the third semester, along with Practical Leadership in Health Professional Practice in the fourth semester. This comprehensive curriculum equips graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful nursing career.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for the program, applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree with a B grade average or higher in Level 7 courses. Additionally, candidates may be required to attend a selection interview. Admission is subject to the approval of the program leader, and students must be prepared to travel to clinical placements throughout Auckland. Current immunizations and completion of bystander CPR training are also required.
