Federal Ministry of Education and Research: Deutschlandstipendium
Outstanding academically and professionally promising new and advanced students are supported by the Deutschlandstipendium. A broad range of skills and abilities are considered, such as strong academic performance and grades, a desire to assume responsibility, or the ability to successfully navigate challenges in the candidate’s career or personal life. Students on Germany study visa can concentrate on their studies since the 300 EUR money is provided for a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of the duration of the regular study term, regardless of the student’s income. The federal government funds half of the scholarship, with private donations covering the remaining half. The distribution of the scholarships is decided by selecting committees of the individual higher education institutions.

Merit Scholarships – University of Hamburg
International students and doctorate candidates can study at the University of Hamburg under the merit-based scheme. Candidates must demonstrate their societal contributions and commitment to intercultural interaction in addition to their academic achievement. The topic matter or degree type is not restricted. Merit scholarships should be awarded so that students may focus entirely on their education and have the chance to grow as individuals. International students pursuing a degree and who have been enrolled in their course at the University of Hamburg for at least two semesters are eligible. RWTH International Academy Women in Engineering (WiE) Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to promote gender parity among international students and allow female engineering students with exceptional potential to study in the RWTH International Academy’s executive masters program at RWTH Aachen University. Female students who are accepted into certain master’s degree programs will receive the WIE Grant. For the specified masters degree programs offered by RWTH International Academy, this scholarship pays 25% of the tuition costs. Scholarship recipients are female students who have been accepted into the specified masters programs and have demonstrated exceptional performance in their undergraduate studies. It is necessary to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
Study in Germany with Private and Non-Governmental Scholarships
Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship
The Heinrich Boll Foundation offers scholarships to approximately 1,500 students across various academic levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. These scholarships are available to students studying at universities, universities of applied sciences, and universities of the arts in Germany. To qualify for the Heinrich Boll Foundation scholarship, applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance and a strong commitment to social and political issues aligned with the foundation’s core values, such as environmental sustainability, democracy, human rights, self-determination, and justice. For non-EU masters students, the scholarship provides a monthly stipend of 934 euros, along with additional allowances. Doctoral students from non-EU countries receive a monthly stipend of 1,200 euros, a mobility allowance of 100 euros, and various personal allowances. Masters scholarships cover the standard duration of study with the option to extend, while doctoral scholarships are available for up to two years, with the possibility of two half-year extensions.
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS): International Scholarships
Each year, the foundation offers scholarships to dedicated students and doctoral candidates who have completed a higher education program in their home country and are hoping to study in Germany. This includes post-graduate courses, masters programs, doctoral studies, or research projects lasting at least four semesters at a German higher education institution. Open to applicants from any nationality, the KAS foundation aims to support students in earning German higher education qualifications, advancing their doctoral research, or gaining additional expertise in their fields. The foundation’s goal is to encourage the development of young academics who will contribute to their home countries upon their return. The scholarship amount and duration are tailored to the applicant’s academic objectives. Generally, post-graduate and masters students receive a monthly grant of 900 euros, with funding typically extending for up to two years. Doctoral candidates, who meet the criteria for unconditional admission to a doctoral program or possess a degree equivalent to a German masters and have at least two years of prior academic experience, are awarded a monthly grant of 1,200 euros, with the sponsorship lasting up to three years. Additional allowances and contributions may also be available based on individual circumstances and study goals.
